Naughty 4 yr. old...

I was at Hobby Lobby this morning just a half hour after they opened thinking the store would be quiet, I could get my paper supply needs (at 50% off) and be on my merry way----that's not how my morning went at all!!!

I arrived at the paper aisle and there were employees painting, you heard me painting! Painting what? I don't know?!! I'm still wondering what really is there to paint? And why down the paper aisle when you know there is a 50% off sale? And why at 9:30 in the morning on a Tuesday? The Tuesday I was going paper shopping?

This is where my morning goes terribly wrong. As the employee exits the aisle and passes me he says, "Be careful, there is wet paint down there..." I take that as a "Watch your kids" kind of warning. Without a second thought I lifted my 2 1/2 yr. old into the shopping cart. I carefully explain to my 4 yr. old that there is wet paint, "DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING!!!" Some of the paper racks are pushed to the other side of the aisle so they could paint the lower half of the shelves, so picking through paper was QUITE a challenge. I was already a bit irritated!!! I hadn't picked out more than 6 pieces of paper when I turn around and noticed my 4 yr. old had left wet cream colored footprints all over the floor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Haaaaaaaaaaaaa" I gasped. "Why? What were you thinking?" I had so many questions for her, but before I began my lecture, I quickly threw her also into the back of the cart and scurried away. I wanted to DIE right there on the spot.

I don't understand what gets into children---more specifically MY children. I was too embarrassed to say anything to anyone, maybe that's just immature and irresponsible, but at the time I kind of thought "serves them right for painting down the paper aisle I needed at 9:30 in the morning." That's terrible now I realize, but they probably had more paint, right?
